Boulevardia: Beer, Music, Local Art, and Bacon!

Boulevardia is an annual celebration held in the Kansas City area, showcasing the country’s vibrant beer culture, culinary delights, music, and local artistry. While many attendees were buzzing about the local brews, my son and I had one delicious focus: BACON!

Without fail, our first destination at Boulevardia is the Farmland Bacon Club tent. As we neared the tent, the irresistible scent of sizzling bacon tantalized our senses from blocks away.

Clearly, bacon takes center stage here, and the crowds showed they were equally passionate about it. The tent buzzed with fellow bacon enthusiasts, ensuring everyone—whether you prefer it crispy or chewy—could indulge in generous samples. My son kicked off his experience with a bite of crispy bacon before heading over to the main stage for the Farmland Bacon Eating Contest.

While he savored his treats, I explored the rest of the Farmland tent. The custom screen-printed t-shirts caught my eye, featuring playful phrases like “You Had Me At Bacon,” “I (beer mug) Bacon,” and “Dads Are Like Bacon They Make Everything Better”—a perfect find for the approaching Father’s Day. It was delightful to see so many attendees proudly wearing their bacon-themed attire throughout the festival.

We also signed up for the free Farmland Bacon Club, which offers a chance to win a year’s supply of bacon. The sign-up process was quick and gave us just enough time to enjoy other delicious offerings before heading to the main event!

My son was eager to defend his title from the 2015 Bacon Eating Contest, alongside eight other bacon fans. Each contestant received a plate containing 30 pieces of bacon, with the aim of being the first to clear their plate.

As the contest progressed, my son found himself just behind the leading contestant, Dennis Montgomery. In a bid to catch up, he decided to go for broke, shoving the remaining bacon into his mouth.

Ultimately, Dennis finished first, polishing off his entire plate in under two minutes, taking home both the coveted trophy and a year’s supply of Farmland Bacon.

Spending the weekend at Boulevardia in the West Bottoms of Kansas City was nothing short of exhilarating. The combination of live music, refreshing beer, and, of course, bacon created an unforgettable experience.
